Dr David Colin-Thomé OBE

Dr David Colin-Thomé, OBE, MBBS, FRCGP, FRCP, FFPH, FFGDP (Honorary), DRCOG, DCH, is the National Clinical Director of Primary Care, Dept of Health, UK and the clinical advisor to the Commissioning and System Management Directorate, DH.

Dr Thome who graduated from the Newcastle University Medical School has numerous academic qualifications including, Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine/Public Health as well as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, to just mention a few. Besides being a practising GP for many years, he has considerable experience in the public sector, having spent many years as a councillor, former senior medical officer at the Scottish Office and a Director of Primary care at North West and London Regional offices.

Dr Thome, a former adviser to Central Manchester University Hospital 2004-07 is honorary visiting professor of the Manchester Centre for Healthcare Management at Manchester University and a Honorary Professor of the School of Health, University of Durham. He has also been on many overseas advisory visits specialising in primary care development. He publishes regularly on primary care reform. He was awarded the OBE in 1997. Dr Thome has been leading initiatives in UK to reconfigure primary care services to offer personalised service to patients nearer their homes.

 
 
     
 
Dr Alan Cohen

Dr Alan Cohen is a Senior Fellow, Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health & National Primary Care Advisor, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme Dr Cohen was a GP for 25 years before joining Kensington and Chelsea Primary Care Trust as Clinical Director (April 2004 to May 2005). In 2000 he received the James Cameron Award from the BMA for his services to general practice. Since 2005 he has been a Primary Care Advisor to the Care Services Improvement Partnership while remaining in active clinical practice. Dr Cohen as a Senior Fellow at the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health is involved in work in alignment with the Centre’s objective of improving the quality of life for people with mental health problems. This is achieved by influencing policy and practice in mental health and related services

Dr Cohen was also the Chair of the London Development Centre for Mental Health, one of the eight regional development centres of the National Institute of Mental Health in England. Dr Cohen has contributed to numerous articles/publications on mental health and primary care. He remains a firm advocate of the importance of primary care services in the delivery of mental health care. Dr Cohen has contributed to the provision of effective and innovative ways of managing anxiety and depression within the primary care setting.

Ken Resnicow graduated with a PhD in Health Psychology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Ferkauf Graduate School and is currently teaching Health Communications for Public Health and Motivational Interviewing in Public Health in the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

His research interests include: the design and evaluation of health promotion programs for special populations, particularly cardiovascular and cancer prevention interventions for African Americans; understanding the relationship between ethnicity and health behaviors; school-based health promotion programs; substance use prevention and harm reduction and motivational interviewing for chronic disease prevention.

 
 
 
 
 
Mr Brian Austin

Brian Austin helped to develop the original proposal for the ICIC program, and currently serves as its deputy director. He is Associate Director of the MacColl Institute, and has been at the Center for Health Studies in various capacities for over 25 years. His areas of interest include implementing population-based care initiatives in primary care settings, the development of expert systems and practice team redesign efforts.
